The Lagos
State Government has advised those intending to invest in landed property in
the state, to follow due process or risk losing such investments.
At a one-day
workshop organized by Tayo Tiwo & Co in partnership with Sofunix Investcom,
the Director of Land Services in Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Oyegbola regretted
that many people acquire properties before carrying out proper investigations to
ascertain the genuineness of such properties and in doing so gave series of
advice on how one can follow due process.
In advising
the general public, he said “Application to the office of Surveyor General
seeking information in respect to the land in question can save you from losing
your hard earn resources.”
He also
advised that if one is engaging in that kind of investment, one must be ready
to open up and seek legal counsel.
The director
lamented at how many buy land without telling their relatives, while some buy
without genuine documents.
In stating their achievement, Director Oyegbola said; “Our
recent achievement in the processing of Certificate of Occupancy, C of O,
indicated that the future is bright. Last year, we started with digital
processing of Cof O which was first of its kind in Nigeria.” When we did the
first test run, the whole process was completed in 17 minutes. The dynamism
aspect of it is that the governor can sign a thousand copies with a press of
button and he can do that from any part of the world. Even when on holiday, he
can read through them and right from his bed, he can sign it. The focus of the
state government is to ensure that the whole process of perfection of titles is
carried out digitally as against manual which will help us to eliminate delay
in processing. The past administration has invested so much in pursuit of
digitalization and we are sure that the administration of his Governor
Akinwunmi Ambode will see to its completion”.
